PLYWOOD RENAISSANCE

Produced by Maxi Cohen
Directed, Filmed, and Edited by Kevin Mastman

After George Floyd was murdered, protests in support of Black Lives Matter resounded across the country. As a consequence, Soho was looted June 1, 2020, and was subsequently boarded up. If there ever was a time for artists to express themselves, it was now. With that thought, Maxi began posting and filming. 300 artists painted more than 700 boards, making Soho an open air museum of protests and prayers.

Kevin Mastman began filming in the summer of 2020 and is still filming as the stories that arose and continue to arise are an amazing testament to the power of art activism.
